Vitamin D3 & K2

If you don’t know, I live in Manchester, UK, famous for football, great music, parkers (big coast and fur hoods), and rain. On the handful of weeks we have blues skies and sunshine, you can find me outside with as little between my skin and the rays as possible. And, with good reason. The sun is one giant healer beaming down more than just good vibes. Another way to improve your health and specifically immunity, is to supplement Vitamin D3 & K2, with the combination being really important. During the winter months I increase my daily dose, but thats just a personal choice thats always helped me.

Benefits:

  • Bone Health: Vitamin D3 enhances calcium absorption, while vitamin K2 directs calcium to the bones, promoting bone mineralisation and reducing the risk of osteoporosis.

  • Cardiovascular Health: Vitamin K2 helps prevent calcium deposition in arteries, supporting cardiovascular health and reducing the risk of arterial calcification.

    Health

  • Immune Support: Vitamin D3 plays a vital role in modulating the immune system, potentially reducing the risk of infections and supporting overall immune function.

Recommended Dosage:

While the recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for vitamin D varies based on age and other factors, a common guideline for adults is 600 to 800 international units (IU) per day. However, some studies suggest that higher doses may be necessary to maintain optimal vitamin D levels, especially in individuals with limited sun exposure. For vitamin K2, intake recommendations range between 120 mcg daily for men and 90 mcg for women. It's important to consult with a healthcare professional to determine the appropriate dosages based on individual health needs and circumstances.

Supporting Studies:

  • A study published in the Journal of Steroid Biochemistry and Molecular Biology concluded that long-term supplementation with vitamin D3 in doses ranging from 5,000 to 50,000 IU/day appears to be safe.

  • Research indicates that vitamin K2 is well-tolerated and does not cause a hypercoagulable state, with no reported adverse effects associated with its use.
